In February 1933 the type 380 was presented whose straight-eight cylinder engine is based on the six-cylinder aggregate of the type 290. Four different engine-variations were constructed, three of them with compressor. As common at that time, the type 380, too, was available ex factory with a whole series of different body-variations: Apart from the limousine a touring vehicle, a sports-roadster, and three different cabriolet-variations were on offer. The independent front- and rear-wheel suspension realized for the first time at a vehicle of this size, ensured that the vehicle was very secure to drive. The security-reserves of the swinging fork axle bodywork, however, were not demanded and, therefore, the type 380 was superseded after only one year and scarcely more than 150 produced units by the more powerful type 500 which is far more famous today. |
